HOLLYWOOD, CA - ”Dimebag” Darrell Abbott fans will not be alone as they pay respect to the legendary guitarist at this year’s Ozzfest, being held at the Pizza Hut Park August 9th in Dallas, TX.
Whereas last year, Ozzfest attendees could win free tickets in a lottery fashion, 2008 will be a whole new ballgame. In an attempt to scale down production, and perhaps tie-down the festival with the yearly “Ride for Dime” celebration, the festival will take place one day only, where fans will be able to take part in a rock festival, and a tribute celebration at the same time.
Along with Ozzy Osbourne, there will be an all-star tribute for Abbott, including Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Slayer’s Kerry King, Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell and Anthrax’s Scott Ian. This will be Metallica’s first time in Dallas since they headlined the Summer Sanitarium tour in 2000.
Bands to perform on the main stage include: Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Serj Tankian, Jonathan Davis, Hell Yeah, Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, and others. On the second stage: Sevendust, Devildriver, Whitcraft and more.
Other attendees include Bob Zilla of Damageplan, Dimebag’s brother Vinnie Paul and his wife Rita Haney.
Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed onstage by a deranged fan during a concert in December 2004.
